Panda Antivirus Pro is not the best anti-spyware software but it does tackle more than spyware. So it tries to protect you from viruses, rootkits and cyber criminals. Panda employs cloud-based technology to provide protection from new and evolving threats. With your permission, Panda anonymously gathers user data to compile a database of emergent malware.
Performance
The independent test lab that we most respect, AV-Test, put Panda through its paces at the end of 2012 and found that it did not emerge a leader in any category. It really failed in the tests to see if it could repair machines where malware was already actively running. It also failed to shine in tests to see whether it could detect and prevent malware. In tests for usability, Panda performed at a merely adequate level.
Features
Panda has an integrated proprietary firewall to help thwart the spread of malware infections. A useful feature typically found on full-scale security suites, the firewall adds an additional layer of protection for your PC. The anti-spyware software comes with automatic updates as a default setting, ensuring the application stays up-to-date without any effort on your part. Panda also provides one-click fixes for any problems it detects. For advanced users, the anti-spyware software provides access to configurations and reporting tools. These enable you to customize security levels and to run reports that show what malware appeared and how it was resolved.
Help & Support
While its online resources prove beneficial, the vendor only provides direct technical support via email. Despite a lack of contact options, you’ll find Panda’s other support resources to be helpful. The Panda website has a knowledgebase, FAQs and user community.
Panda Antivirus Pro was not able to produce good results when AV-Test included it in tests during the autumn of 2012. Therefore, it is difficult to recommend Panda. It is, however, much more than anti-spyware because it protects against viruses and rootkits. It also includes a proprietary firewall in case you would prefer to have a firewall from the same vendor as your antimalware. Panda provides support by email only, so if you prefer more immediate communication from technical support, Panda is probably not the one for you.
Pros
AV-Test has published test results for Panda, so it is possible to rank it among the competition.
Cons
Technical support is available via email only.
Panda is not the best at protection, repair or usability.
