This product is an average detection and deletion product. It also has an "average" real time monitor. Its biggest drawbacks are that it is very slow at scanning and doesn't offer any descriptions of the spyware it detects. One of the deep scans took us more than 45 minutes to complete. On the upside, BPS Spyware Remover comes with a pop-up blocker, a system hijack scanner, and a Winsock repair tool.
Feature Set:
It has a good feature set as far as things that it does but it doesn't do them all that well. It has rollback or restore capabilities and real time monitoring. It also comes with a pop-up blocker, a system hijack scanner, and a Winsock repair tool.
Effectiveness:
The program's scanning seems to be effective at finding spyware that is on your hard drive. However, when it finds a spyware/adware component, it doesn't offer any descriptions about what it was that it found. The real time monitor watches for processes and memory and lists everything it finds in a hard-to-read format with no indication of severity, etc. So, it's pretty ineffective.
Ease of Use:
BPS Spyware is somewhat easy to use functionally but the interface is ugly. Also, the lack of component descriptions makes it hard to decide what to do with the spyware it finds.
Customization:
There is an option to choose what types of Spyware/Adware to search for such as: Browser Helper Objects, Key loggers, Trojans, etc…
Ease of Setup:
It's an quick download and an easy installation.
Help/Support:
The Help and Support system is all online. There is a User's Guide online complete with screenshots and a table of contents (no search capabilities). There is also an "FAQ Wizard" on the homepage where you can search for questions or answers. If this fails, you can ask a question through an online ticket system from their website. However, it may take a few days to get an answer to your question and you will have to navigate back to the site to get your answer.
Summary:
We can't think of too many reasons why you would buy this product. Even with the things it does well, there are other options that do just as well and a lot more for the same price.
